Welcome

My name is Michael and I am a Registered Psychologist working in private practice in East Melbourne, and Malvern. I have a Master's degree in psychology and extensive experience in hospital inpatient, outpatient, and private health settings. I provide individual and group psychotherapy for people navigating a wide range of life's challenges spanning anxiety, depression, addiction, trauma, grief, relationships, and parenting issues.

Therapy is a collaborative exploration towards deeper personal understanding and acceptance. My goal is to provide a warm, welcoming space for us to gain a thorough appreciation of you. This includes your challenges, your fears and your suffering, as well as your strength, resilience, individuality, and hope for new growth in your life. Once we understand what change you want to create, I can suggest evidence-based therapeutic approaches which may be helpful.

I work from a psychodynamic frame and incorporate elements of cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavioural therapy, and somatic and mindfulness practices. These are well-established ways people can better understand themselves and overcome their struggles. Above specific approaches I prioritise a healthy, respectful working relationship grounded in care, compassion, truth, and knowledge. I seek and value regular feedback from you to ensure our work feels safe and productive.

Therapeutic approaches I use

Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)

Mindfulness
